Numbers of Out of School children reduce in Kano- KN SUBEB Chair

The Executive Chairman, State Universal Basic Education Board, Malam Yusif Kabir, has reaffirmed the Commitment of the Board to collaborate with relevant stake holders to support children of less privilege family who could not afford to enroll their children in schools to be enroll and retain them up to completion level.
Malam Yusif Kabir, gave the assurance at the National Identification and Enrolment of Out of School Children held at SBMC Hall SUBEB Head quarter.
Represented by the Director Special Duties, Malam Mu’azu Magaji, the Executive Chairman, added that Federal Ministry of Education with the support of Kano State Government collaborates to support livelihood of Out of School Children through identification and support them to return back to school.

He highlighted that out-of- School Children menace has Social Implication which include: Security challenges, shortage of skilled manpower in future, negative international image, high level of illiteracy and high socio economic and dependency issues among others.
Malam Yusif urged wealthy individuals, philanthropist, Civil Society Organization, Community members and other stake holders to continue contributing their best in supporting education of children in their domain for betterment of the society.
In his Remark, the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Abba Kabir Yusif on Basic Education, Honarable Masa’ud Toranke lauded Kano Governor for according priority to Education sector, pointing out that the program was in line with the present administration commitment and determination to ensure that all children of School age were given full opportunity to access quality basic Education.

Honorable Toranke Observed that, in the past, Kano State has the highest number of Out School Children in the country but the number was drastically reduce as a result of the government commitment and interventions through establishment of New lower and upper Basic schools which paved ways to many parents to enroll their children in schools.
Speaking at the event, the Director Basic Education, Federal Ministry of Education, Dr. (Mrs.) O.F. Olatunji David who represented by Rebecca Chikere said the program was the third phase of several interventions that the federal Government embarked on to ensure substantial reduction in number of Out School Children In the country.

Dr. (Mrs.) David called on stakeholders to collaborate with Federal Government in supporting every Nigerian Child to have opportunity to learn, grow and fulfill their dream adding that Federal Ministry of Education is working diligently through many programmes and projects such as AGILE, GPE-TESS BESDA –AF to tackle the issue of out of school children in the country.
In his vote of thanks, the State School Based Management Committee (SBMC) Chairman, Malam Tijjani Haladu Baraya who was represented by the Chairman SBMC Kano Municipal, Eng. Sale Yakubu assured the redness of the committees’ members in supporting the move aimed at reducing the number of out of school children.

The climax of the event was distribution of learning materials to children who were returned and enrolled in schools.
The materials distributed includes Bags, books, pens and school sandals
