For more than nine decades, Dandago Special Primary School (SPS), Gwale LGEA, has remained a symbol of academic excellence, discipline, and community service in Kano State. Established in 1934, the historic institution has consistently nurtured generations of responsible citizens and distinguished leaders, earning its place among the state’s most respected public primary schools.

Located at Dandago, Mandawari, Sabon Titi, Gwale Local Government Area, the school traces its origin to its early days when it was known as “DAGO.” It initially operated at the Gwauron Dutse Rehabilitation Centre before relocating to Dandago Unguwar Nufawa, where it has continued its mission of providing quality basic education to thousands of pupils.

Guided by the vision of transforming the lives and minds of children through quality education, selfless service, dedication, self-reliance, hard work, and perseverance, the school has maintained high standards of teaching and learning. Its mission is centred on achieving educational excellence through competent teaching methodologies, effective leadership, efficient school management, and active stakeholder participation.

Today, Dandago Special Primary School serves 987 pupils with a dedicated workforce of 39 teaching staff and 12 non-teaching staff, spread across 36 classrooms. The school provides a learner-friendly environment with a functional library, playground, and water and sanitation facilities while actively implementing Inclusive Education, Safeguarding and Child Protection, Clubs and Societies, and Sports and Cultural Programmes.

The school has also recorded remarkable achievements, including receiving a Monitoring and Evaluation Team Award for outstanding performance. Community support has further strengthened its development through the construction of pupils’ toilets by the Old Pupils Association, renovation of the school gate, and installation of a solar-powered borehole.

A major strength of the institution lies in its vibrant partnerships with the Parents Teachers Association (PTA), School-Based Management Committee (SBMC), Mothers Association (MA), and the Old Pupils Association (OPA), whose continuous support has contributed immensely to the school’s steady growth and development.

Despite challenges such as inadequate security personnel and insufficient water supply, the school remains focused on the future. Plans are underway to establish an ICT/Computer Learning Centre, construct a standard security office, improve water supply facilities, and expand digital learning opportunities.

As Dandago Special Primary School continues its journey, it remains committed to providing inclusive, safe, and learner-centred education while promoting discipline, innovation, teamwork, moral values, and community participation. With a proud history spanning over 90 years, the school continues to inspire confidence as it prepares future generations to become responsible, knowledgeable, and productive citizens of Kano State and Nigeria.
