SUBEB, UBEC Begin Training on Revised Curriculum in Kano

The Kano State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), in collaboration with the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), has commenced a Training of Trainers (ToT) on the Revised Basic Education Curriculum aimed at improving the quality of teaching and learning in public basic education schools across the state.

Speaking at Sabon Gari Wudil Special Primary School in Wudil Local Government Education Authority, one training centre, the Executive Chairman of SUBEB, Malam Yusuf Kabir, said the programme was designed to equip selected master trainers with the knowledge and skills required to effectively implement the revised curriculum in schools.

He explained that the master trainers would, after the workshop, cascade the training to teachers across the 44 Local Government Education Authorities (LGEAs), ensuring uniform implementation of the new curriculum throughout the state.

According to the Chairman, the revised curriculum places emphasis on competency-based learning, critical thinking, creativity, digital literacy, entrepreneurship, civic values, environmental sustainability and inclusive education to prepare pupils for the challenges and opportunities of the 21st century.

Malam Yusuf Kabir noted that the Board considered the training necessary to adequately prepare teachers ahead of the nationwide implementation of the curriculum, stressing that quality teacher development remains central to improving learning outcomes.

He expressed appreciation to the Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, for giving priority attention to the education sector through sustained investment in teacher recruitment, training and retraining, as well as the provision of teaching and learning materials and other interventions aimed at repositioning basic education in the state.

The SUBEB Chairman assured participants that the Board had put in place mechanisms for continuous mentoring, classroom monitoring, supervision and periodic evaluation to ensure the successful implementation of the revised curriculum.

He commended the state Government under the leadership Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf for attaching top priority to basic education, especially in the of training and retraining of teachers to enable them to global educational challenges.

Participants at the workshop, drawn from the 44 LGEAs and relevant departments of the Board, commended SUBEB for introducing progressive reforms and innovative programmes that continue to strengthen the education sector in Kano State.

They described the training as timely and pledged to effectively transfer the knowledge acquired to teachers at the grassroots.

The workshop forms part of the ongoing partnership between SUBEB and UBEC to enhance teachers’ capacity and improve the quality of basic education across the state
