SUBEB Chairman Urges Directors to Strengthen UBEC-SUBEB Collaboration for Improved Basic Education in Kano

The Executive Chairman of the Kano State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Malam Yusuf Kabir, has called on directors and senior management staff of the Board to intensify their commitment towards ensuring the effective implementation of joint programmes between the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) and Kano SUBEB for the overall benefit of the people of the state.
The Chairman made the call at a two-day management retreat organized for directors and senior officials of the Board in Dutse, Jigawa State.
According to Malam Yusuf Kabir, the retreat was convened to review the work plans and activities of all departments, assess the level of implementation of ongoing programmes, and ensure that all projects are executed in line with established guidelines, accountability, and best practices.
He noted that the Kano State Government, under the leadership of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, has continued to demonstrate commitment to revitalizing the education sector through the prompt payment of the state’s counterpart funding (Matching Grant), thereby enabling Kano to fully benefit from UBEC intervention projects.
The SUBEB Chairman further explained that, beyond the payment of counterpart funds, the state government has invested substantial resources in the construction and renovation of classrooms, provision of furniture, learning and teaching materials, water and sanitation facilities, and other critical infrastructure aimed at improving the learning environment across public primary and junior secondary schools.
He also highlighted the recruitment of 7,688 new teachers by the Kano State Government to address teacher shortages in public schools, alongside continuous capacity-building programmes designed to equip teachers with modern teaching methodologies and improve the quality of classroom instruction.
Malam Yusuf Kabir stressed that these interventions reflect the administration’s determination to reposition basic education and ensure that every child in Kano has access to quality education.
He therefore urged all directors and senior officials of the Board to remain committed, transparent, and dedicated to the effective implementation of government policies and educational programmes, emphasizing that teamwork, accountability, and adherence to due process are essential to sustaining the remarkable progress being recorded in the education sector.
