UBEC/SUBEB Kano Commences Second Batch of Two-Day Training for Critical Stakeholders on 2025 SBMC Guidelines

The Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), in collaboration with the Kano State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), has commenced the second batch of a two-day training for critical stakeholders on the 2025 Guidelines on the Roles and Responsibilities of School-Based Management Committees (SBMCs) in Dutse, Jigawa State.

The training is designed to strengthen the capacity of key education stakeholders and deepen their understanding of the updated SBMC guidelines with a view to promoting effective school governance, accountability, community participation and improved learning outcomes across basic education schools in Kano State.

Declaring the training open, the Kano State Commissioner for Education, Gwani Ali Haruna Abubakar Makoda, represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education, Malam Bashir Baffa, commended UBEC and SUBEB for organising the programme.

He described School-Based Management Committees as a critical bridge between schools and their host communities and urged participants to effectively implement the knowledge gained to improve the quality of basic education in the state.

In his address, the Executive Chairman of Kano SUBEB, Malam Yusuf Kabir, expressed profound appreciation to UBEC for approving and supporting the training programme, describing the intervention as another demonstration of the Commission’s commitment to strengthening basic education through community participation.

He stated that School-Based Management Committees were established to encourage active community participation in the administration and management of schools, stressing that stronger community ownership would ultimately lead to improved teaching, better learning outcomes and greater accountability in the education system.

The Executive Chairman further called on all Education Secretaries across the 44 Local Government Education Authorities (LGEAs) in Kano State to provide office accommodation for SBMC members at the LGEA level, replicating the support already provided by SUBEB at the state headquarters.

According to him, providing functional office spaces would further strengthen the operations of the committees and enable them to effectively discharge their responsibilities.

Also speaking, the State Chairman of SBMC, Alhaji Tijjani Haladu Baraya, described the training as timely and urged stakeholders to remain committed to the effective implementation of the 2025 SBMC Guidelines.

The State Chairman of the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA), Alhaji Dalhatu Abdullahi, reaffirmed the commitment of parents to supporting government efforts aimed at improving the quality of basic education across the state.

Similarly, the State Coordinator of the Civil Society Action Coalition on Education for All (CSACEFA), Ibrahim Hassan Gama, highlighted the importance of collaboration among government, civil society organisations and communities in achieving sustainable educational development.

In his goodwill message, the District Head of Albasu and retired Deputy Inspector General of Police, Alhaji Bashir Albasu Makaman Gaya, called for increased investment in the education sector.

He appealed for the provision of more classrooms to address congestion in schools, continuous training and retraining of teachers to improve instructional delivery, as well as strengthened supervision and monitoring of schools to ensure quality teaching and learning.

Participants at the training include representatives of School-Based Management Committees, Parent-Teacher Associations, traditional institutions, civil society organisations, education administrators and other critical stakeholders from across Kano State.

The second batch of the two-day training forms part of the sustained efforts of UBEC and Kano SUBEB to strengthen community participation in school management and ensure the effective implementation of the 2025 SBMC Guidelines for improved basic education service delivery in Kano State..
