In a significant development, Alhaji Tijjani Haladu Baraya, Chairman of the School-Based Management Committee (SBMC) in Kano State, has been elected as the chairman of the SBMC committee for the North-West zone of Nigeria. This achievement underscores Kano State’s commitment to improving its education sector.

The election was part of a broader effort by the Universal Basic Education Commission UBEC to establish a national leadership for the SBMC. The North-West zone of Nigeria, comprising seven states, including Kano, was actively involved in the process. Alhaji Abdullahi Umar Wazirin Gwandu from Kebbi State was elected as the national chairman of the SBMC, while Dr. Ashir Ismail from Lagos State became the national secretary.
