UBEC Deputy Executive Secretary Visits Kano, Pledges Stronger Collaboration to Boost Basic Education

The Deputy Executive Secretary (Technical) of the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), Mr. Razak Olajowun Akinyemi, has paid an official visit to the leadership of the Kano State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) as part of efforts to enhance synergy and monitor ongoing projects in the state.
During the visit, held under the leadership of SUBEB Chairman Malam Yusuf Kabir, Mr. Akinyemi stated that his mission to Kano was to inspect projects jointly executed by UBEC and SUBEB. He emphasized the need for identifying areas that require greater collaboration to improve the delivery of basic education in the state.
Mr. Akinyemi commended SUBEB’s strategic initiatives in advancing Early Childhood Care Development and Education (ECCDE), primary, and junior secondary education. These include the construction of new classrooms, training of teachers on modern teaching methodologies, and provision of instructional materials.
He also called on alumni of public schools to contribute to the development of the institutions that nurtured them, noting that community support can help ease the burden on government in managing the education sector.
The Deputy Executive Secretary praised the Kano State Government for its investments in education, especially in constructing and renovating classrooms and training teachers.
In his remarks, Malam Yusuf Kabir acknowledged the state government’s commitment to educational development.
He cited the recruitment of new teachers, infrastructure development, and provision of teaching materials as part of ongoing reforms.
Malam Yusuf appealed to UBEC to consider Kano’s unique status, as the state with over 8,000 basic education schools, when allocating intervention projects.
He further disclosed that Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf has approved a land allocation within the SUBEB headquarters at the Audu Bako Secretariat for the construction of a UBEC state office. He also urged UBEC to consider upgrading the Kano state UBEC office to a zonal coordinating office.
As part of his itinerary, Mr. Akinyemi visited the SUBEB, UBEC Smart School located in Tarda, Ungogo Local Government Area
