State Universal Basic Education Board, Kano Organizes Workshop for 220 School Library Officers

The State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) Kano has organized a special two-day workshop for 220 school library officers drawn from lower and upper Basic schools across the 44 local government areas of the state.

The training session, held at the board’s training center located within Sadiatu Rimi College of Education, Kumbotso, aimed to equip participants with modern strategies for managing school libraries and enhancing their effective use in schools.

During the opening ceremony, the Executive Chairman of the Board, represented by the Director of Teacher Development, Hajiya Hauwa Tanimu, emphasized the importance of school libraries as vital educational hubs.

The Chairman noted that libraries support both students and teachers in accessing additional learning materials, conducting research, and developing critical thinking skills.

Malam Yusuf Kabir highlighted that having well-equipped libraries in schools helps foster a reading culture among students while providing teachers with access to up-to-date teaching materials and methods.

He added that the workshop is one of several strategic initiatives endorsed by the Kano State Government under the leadership of Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf to revamp the education sector.

He urged participants to remain focused and committed during the workshop and encouraged school heads and teachers to embrace the use of libraries and educate students on their significance in academic development.

Speaking at the event, the Executive Secretary, of the State Library Board, Alhaji Kabiru Ado Zakirai, described the workshop as a platform for professionals to deliver expert talks, showcase modern tools used in library management, and engage in discussions on improving library services in schools.

Also speaking, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Library Affairs, Hajiya Hauwa Halilu, commended Governor Yusuf for his consistent efforts in prioritizing education reform in the state.

Dr. Yakubu Anas, the lead trainer and head of the YUSUFA Education Development services described the workshop as a collaborative initiative between SUBEB, the State Library Board, and YUSUFA’s Education Development services.

Some of the participants, including Malam Ibrahim Imam and Malama Rabi Tijjani, expressed gratitude to SUBEB Chairman Malam Yusuf Kabir for his proactive approach toward improving education from the foundational level. They pledged to utilize the knowledge gained from the training to improve their performance in managing school libraries.
