SUBEB Kano vows to recover unpaid Corner Shops Rentals. Commends Committee’s members

The Executive Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) Kano Malam Yusif Kabir has commended the members of the Schools Corner shops for their dedication and selfless service.

Malam Yusif made the commendation in his office while receiving a report of the committee on schools Corner shops.

He assured that the board would take all necessary steps to ensure that defaulters pay their outstanding corner shops rentals and pledges to support the schools with corner shop to utilize generated revenue judiciously.

He also announced that the board would study the committee’ recommendation for implementation

The Executive Chairman took the opportunity to express his gratitude to Governor Abba Kabir Yusif for approving the inauguration of the committee.

He praised the Governor’s commitment to ensure transparency and accountability in management of corner shops in schools

According to the committee’s report presented to the Executive Chairman of SUBEB, by the committee’s Chairman Malam Bashir Ibrahim said the team visited nineteen (19) Local Government Education Authority (LGEA’s) and identified Four Thousand One Hundred and eighty siix (4,186) corner shops, with One Hundred and One School (101) Schools having corner shops contrary to the recorded fifty two (52) schools.

He said the committee found that revenue generated from corner shop rentals between 2019 and 2023 amounted to N32, 588,150.00 with default of N35, 863,158.The projected revenue for this year is estimated to reach N120,580,000.00

Malam Bashir Ibrahim Sharifai has revealed that the committee covered that a staggering N32 million in unaccounted revenue from corner shop rentals in schools across the state.

He expressed Gratitude to the Executive Chairman Malam Yusif Kabir for the opportunity to conduct the investigation and thanked other SUBEB and LGEA members for their cooperation.
