The State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has distributed motorcycles and mobile phones to school monitoring officers as part of efforts to strengthen supervision, monitoring, and quality assurance in teaching and learning across public primary and upper basic schools in the state.

Speaking at the distribution ceremony, the Executive Chairman of the Board, Malam Yusuf Kabir, explained that the provision of the motorcycles and mobile phones was aimed at improving the effectiveness of school monitoring activities by enabling officers to access schools more easily and collect educational data promptly and efficiently.

Malam Yusuf Kabir emphasized that school monitoring remains a critical pillar of the education system, as it supports the assessment of teaching quality, monitoring of teachers’ and pupils’ attendance, identification of challenges within schools, and the provision of professional guidance necessary for improving educational standards.

Represented by the Director of Monitoring and Evaluation, Malam Mu’azu Magaji, the Executive Chairman disclosed that ten (10) motorcycles were distributed to State Evaluators, while two hundred and eight (208) mobile phones were issued to School Support Officers (SSOs), Heads of Unit for Academic Services in primary schools, and Heads of Unit for Upper Basic Schools in junior secondary schools.

He noted that the provision of these tools would: increase the frequency of school monitoring visits, particularly in rural and hard-to-reach areas, enhance timely collection and digital transmission of monitoring and inspection reports, strengthen supervision of teaching, discipline, and safety in schools; and support evidence-based decision-making through reliable and accurate data.

Malam Yusuf Kabir further stated that the equipment was procured under a collaborative programme between the State Government and the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), as part of ongoing reforms aimed at improving the quality of basic education in the state.

He urged beneficiaries to use the equipment responsibly and with integrity, stressing the importance of dedication, accountability, and commitment to improving learning outcomes as well as the moral development of pupils and students.

In his remarks, the Director of Monitoring and Evaluation, Malam Mu’azu Magaji, expressed appreciation to the Executive Chairman and the State Government for the support, noting that the initiative would significantly boost staff morale and enhance efficiency in the discharge of their duties.

The distribution of the motorcycles and mobile phones forms part of SUBEB’s broader strategy to strengthen school governance, improve monitoring systems, and ensure that every child has access to quality and effective basic education across the state.
