Kano SUBEB Inaugurates Steering Committee for Commissioning of Kiru Bilingual School

The Kano State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has inaugurated a steering committee to coordinate the commissioning and smooth take-off of the newly established Kiru Bilingual School—an important step in the state’s drive to strengthen bilingual education.

The inauguration ceremony was held at the Bilingual Education Program Secretariat, SUBEB Headquarters.

Speaking at the event, the Executive Chairman of SUBEB, Malam Yusuf Kabir, represented by the Board Secretary, Hajiya Amina Umar, who also serves as Chairperson of the committee, said the committee is mandated to plan, coordinate, and implement all activities required to ensure the school begins operations efficiently and in line with global educational best practices.

Hajiya Amina Umar described the Kiru Bilingual School as a strategic investment in the future of education in Kano State. She noted that the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to providing quality, inclusive, and modern learning opportunities that prepare pupils for an increasingly interconnected world.

She further stated that the committee is expected to ensure that the school upholds excellence in academic delivery and administrative management from the onset. The Board Secretary urged the members to execute their duties with dedication, integrity, and teamwork, emphasizing the need for strong partnerships with parents, educators, community leaders, and relevant government agencies.

While appreciating stakeholders for their continuous support, she expressed confidence that the committee would deliver outstanding results, describing the project as a new chapter in the advancement of bilingual education in the state.

In her remarks, the State Project Coordinator of the Bilingual Education Program, Mujittaba Amina, explained that the bilingual school aims to deliver quality education by integrating Arabic and English languages in its curriculum. She noted that the model would broaden learning opportunities, deepen cultural understanding, and equip students with skills relevant both locally and globally.

The Coordinator emphasized that the Kiru Bilingual School is not merely another educational facility but a legacy project intended to serve future generations. She assured that the state government remains committed to providing sustained support and adequate resources to ensure the school’s long-term success.

The newly inaugurated steering committee comprises representatives from the State Ministry of Education and its parastatals, the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), the Qur’anic and Islamiyya School Management Board (QISMB), the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) Kano Chapter, the State Parent–Teacher Association, Kiru Local Government Authority, Security Personnel and the District Head of Kiru while Amina Dalha has been appointed as the committee’s Secretary.
