Kano Govt to Establish 200 Learning Centres to Tackle Out-of-School Children

The Kano State Government has announced plans to establish 200 Learning Centres across the state as part of renewed efforts to reduce the number of out-of-school children and expand access to basic education.

The disclosure was made during a Town Hall Meeting held in Minjibir Local Government Area.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Lukman Tajo Suraj, who represented the Commissioner for Education, Gwani Ali Haruna Abubakar Makoda, stated that the initiative is aimed at addressing the growing challenge of children who are not enrolled in school. He explained that the establishment of the centres would provide inclusive learning opportunities and further strengthen the state’s commitment to improving educational outcomes.

In his remarks, the Councillor for Education, Hon. Abdulkudus Uba, who represented the Chairman of Minjibir Local Government, Capt Jibrin Nalado, expressed appreciation to Save the Children for selecting the local government to benefit from the programme. He described the intervention as timely and impactful, assuring that the council would provide maximum cooperation to ensure its successful implementation.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Education Secretary of the area, Malam Rabiu Muhammad, affirmed that the Education Department is fully committed to supporting the programme.

He emphasized that all necessary measures would be taken to guarantee its smooth execution and sustainability.
Also speaking at the meeting, the Danburam of Kano and District Head of Minjibir, Alhaji Umar Sunusi, reaffirmed the Emirate’s commitment to advancing educational development. He stressed the importance of community participation and pledged continued traditional support toward improving access to quality education.

The Community Engagement Officer of Save the Children, Malam Usman Bello, explained that the purpose of the Town Hall Meeting was to present stakeholders’ action plans developed by community members to address challenges hindering educational development in their respective areas. He noted that the action plans were carefully designed to provide practical, community-driven solutions aimed at improving access, enrolment, retention, and the overall quality of education.

Malam Usman Bello further disclosed that similar Town Hall Meetings had earlier been conducted in Makoda and Ajingi Local Government Areas as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen collaboration among stakeholders and promote sustainable educational development across Kano State.

The Town Hall Meeting brought together key stakeholders in the education sector, community leaders, and development partners to deliberate on strategies for strengthening basic education delivery in the state.
